Borussia Dortmund finished ahead of the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the UCL standings as they finished their league phase engagements with a 3:1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Here are the player ratings for BVB vs Shakhtar from L’Equipe (1 very bad, 10 very good). Guirassy was the best Dortmund player against Shakhtar with rating of 8, while Donetsk’s Pedrinho was the poorest player (rating of 2/10)

Dortmund eventually finished 10th in the 24 team league, narrowly missing out on an automatic Round of 16 spot (which goes to teams 1-8). BVB will now have to go through the playoffs but will be seeded for this clash by virtue of their 10th place finish.

The midweek round of Bundesliga fixtures produced an upset on the Baltic Sea, with KSV Holstein Kiel upsetting Borussia Dortmund 4:2 on January 14, 2025.

Percentage of Youth Minutes among Bundesliga sides 2019-20 | Club Playing minutes for youngsters

Have you wondered which Bundesliga team gives the most minutes to youth players? A study conducted has revealed that Borussia Dortmund give the most minutes to players under the age of 22, while Union Berlin, one of the three promoted teams, give their youngsters virtually zero playing time.

The Ruhr derby teams top this table, with 22.3% of Dortmund’s playing league minutes this season going to their youngsters and 19.1%. Leipzig are third with 18.7%, but champions Bayern are well down the list with 7.4%, thus showing that the Bavarian giants prefer to rely on a well-established, experienced core. Marco Rose’s Borussia Monchengladbach give just 0.8% percent of their minutes to youth players, the lowest of any side in the current top six.
