La Liga on TV in India from 2021/22 season- MTV Channel to telecast Spanish league

India will have La Liga back on their television screens beginning the 2021/22 season after Viacom India signed a three year deal with the Spanish league. La Liga will now be telecast live on youth channel MTV in India. The league was not on TV last year in India, with Facebook showing games for viewers from the country. The deal was officially announced today (July 5, 2021)- the new Spanish season begins on August 13, 2021.

MTV in India is a youth focused channel (music and reality shows), with shows like Roadies and Splitsvilla on it.

The number of top leagues being telecast live on India has declined over the last few years- even the Bundesliga was only available online on Fancode last season.

La Liga’s digital rights for 2021/2022 in India have also gone to Viacom, and the league will be streamed on Voot and Jio platforms.

Italian champions Juventus’ wait for a Champions League title got a little longer after they were knocked out by French side Olympique Lyonnais on the away goals rule.

Here are the newspaper headlines and reaction from three of Italy’s biggest sports newspapers- Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and TuttoSport.

Both CdS and Tutto seemed to think the defeat would mean an exit for Juve boss Maurizio Sarri. CdS ran the headline “Adieu, Maurizio” (Goodbye Maurizio in French) while Tutto went with “Sarri Out”
