Hosts France went down 2:1 to Canada in their second group game at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Les Bleues had taken the lead just before half time through Marie-Antoinette Katoto (42′), but Canada equalised through Jessie Fleming (58′) and then snatched victory right at the end through Vanessa Giles (90′)
Despite having two wins, Canada’s points tally remains 0 because of the 6-point deduction for using drones to spy on their opponents’ tactics. The victory though keeps them in the hunt for qualifying for the last eight as one of the two best third placed teams (Brazil and Australia currently occupy those spots and they’ll be up against Spain and the USA respectively)
Here are the player ratings for France v Canada from L’Equipe. It wasn’t a great game according to the paper- none of the players got above a 6, with the French goalkeeper the worst of the bunch (3/10)
France will play winless New Zealand in their last game while Canada will be up against Colombia.
